Il Significato Profondo del Caffé in una Mug (also in English)

Buongiorno e buon anno a tutti,

Stamattina mi siete venuti in mente mentre bevevo un bel caffé all'Italiana.

Stavo sorseggiando un espresso, ma qualcosa non quadrava. Il caffé era buono, aromatico e soddisfaccente, pero' non mi sentivo del tutto soddisfatto. Non mi sentivo ne dissetato (anzi) ne pronto ad affrontare la giornata. Mi sono accorto che bevevo il caffé con una technica piu' adeguata al caffé lungo Inglese (cioé a sorsoni) e non con il tipico libare dovuto all'espresso.
E cosi fini', in un batter d'occhio, il mio caffé. Il piacere era passato troppo in fretta: avevo bisogno di un altro caffé.


Mi sono reso conto che desideravo il consueto caffé lungo che bevo normalmente tutte le mattine; il caffé in una Mug. Cos'é successo? L'espresso mi piace tantissimo, perché mi sentivo cosi' poco soddisfatto?

Pensandoci un po' sono arrivato alla conclusione che il mio errore é stato quello di affrontare il caffé all'Italiana con l'impostazione mentale dovuta al caffé Inglese.

L'espresso, si beve relativamente in fretta, mentre il caffé in una mug ci consente di prolungare l'esperienza. Di soffermarsi per una decina di minuti e pensare a mille cose o pensare a niente mentre si beve, distrattamente, il caffé.

In poche parole: Bere il caffé lungo in una mug tende agli stati d'animo contemplativi.

É forse questo il significato profondo del caffé in una mug?

I thought of you this morning as I drank an Italian coffee, but something wasn't quite right.

My espresso was very nice, full of flavour and aroma. Yet I felt somewhat dissatisfied with the experience. I felt that I wasn't ready yet to face the day. I was drinking an espresso but I quickly noticed that I was drinking my espresso with a technique more suited to drinking a British-style coffee in a mug: I was taking large mouthfuls.
And so my coffee vanished almost instantly. The pleasure was over too soon; I needed another espresso.

I realised that what I really wanted was the coffee that I usually drink every morning. I wanted a long coffee in a mug.
What happened? I love espresso, so why did I feel so dissatisfied?
After thinking about it for a bit I came to the conclusion that my mistake had been to approach my espresso with the mindset of someone who is about to drink a long British coffee.

Espresso is typically drunk rather hurriedly, while a coffee in a mug allows us to extend the coffee experience. It allows us to spend some ten minutes or so thinking about everything or nothing at all, while we drink, absentmindedly, our coffee.

In essence: drinking a long British-style coffee in a mug is a more contemplative experience.
